The heat wave is putting stress on grass, and it will go into a dormant state during the heat wave. The general consensus is that lawn grasses need 1-1.5″ of water per week. Because it is difficult to apply all of that water at once without excessive runoff, it is recommend that you water 2-3 times per week. Aim to provide about 1/2″ of water over the course of an hour to prevent runoff.
Several residents have asked if the grass in the common areas is getting adequate watering. The HOA-installed sprinklers in the common areas are running on their normal schedule, balancing the grass’s need for water against the much higher water bill which would have to be reflected in higher HOA dues. The grass should recover when the heat wave breaks.
If you see sprinklers that are damaged or running at an odd time, please let The Board know so it can get addressed.
